Enhancing Phase-Contrast Micro-CT Imaging through Machine Learning
Supervisors: Dr. Felix Beckmann (Hereon), Dr. Jörg Hammel (Hereon), Prof. Dr. Julia Herzen (Technical University of Munich)

Dominik studied physics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), where he completed his master’s thesis in 2022 on time-resolved X-ray dark-field imaging at laboratory sources.
In his PhD project at the synchrotron source PETRA III, he aims to develop a scanning and postprocessing procedure that extracts the maximum amount of information imparted on the X-ray wavefront by the examined object – not just the attenuation, but also the phase-contrast and small-angle scattering – while creating a clear separation between these signals. The result will enhance the understanding of disease mechanisms in biomedical samples and advance knowledge of material properties in materials science applications.
