Requirements

To apply for our program, you need a Master's Degree (or an estimated graduation date within the year of application) in computer science, applied mathematics, or natural sciences, preferably with interdisciplinary training at the interface of natural and computer science or mathematics. Degrees from foreign universities and Master's degrees in non-research-oriented study programs (Fachhochschule) might be eligible. Please consult the corresponding partner university's doctoral degree regulations (Promotionsordnung) for more details.

The following documents are required for your application:

• Letter of Application
  Why are you interested in this study program? What are your current research interests?
  (in English, max. two pages)
• Curriculum Vitae
  with relevant credentials, qualifications, and a list of publications
  (in English, max. two pages).
• Certificates of your Master's and Bachelor's Degrees
  (we accept degrees in German or English or certified and notarized translations of your degree; if you cannot upload a Certificate of your Master's degree yet, please upload a document with the envisioned date of graduation, the thesis title and a short outline)
• Transcript of Records
  (in German or English, or certified and notarised translations thereof; if you cannot upload a Transcript of Records for your Master's degree yet, please upload a document with the envisioned date of graduation, the thesis title and a short outline)
• Abstract of Your Bachelor and Master Thesis
  (in German or English; if you cannot upload a Master thesis abstract yet, please upload a document with the envisioned date of graduation, the thesis title and a short outline)
• Adequate English Proficiency
  (fluency in written and spoken English is a prerequisite, ideally a corresponding certificate as proof of your English skills should be provided if you did not obtain your university degree in an study program taught in English)
• Summary of Computer Science Skills
  (please comment on your experience with scientific software, programming, and software development, max. one page)
• Letter of Recommendation
  from your official Master thesis advisor and optionally a second letter of recommendation (by one of your professors, previous employers, or supervisors) - optionally, the letter can be send to application-dashh@desy.de
• Contact Information of Your Master Thesis Advisor and a Second Referee
  to be contacted by our selection committee to investigate your past scientific and professional activities and academic performance by submitting your application
