Sebastian studied Physics as well as Business Administration in Frankfurt, writing his Bachelor theses in the fields of Developmental Economics and Computational Neuroscience. He then obtained a Master's degree at Utrecht University in Theoretical Physics. In his thesis, he investigated the effects of dissolved ionic salts under nano-confinement using molecular dynamics simulations.
For his PhD, Sebastian is currently working at the Institute for Algorithms and Complexity, as well as the Coherent X-ray Imaging division at the Center for Free Electron Laser Science. His work focuses on the analysis of protein x-ray crystallography data. In particular, he is working on direct phase retrieval using iterative projection algorithms.
