Scientific facilities like European XFEL can significantly benefit from tools to automatically analyze and suggest improvements to the quality of the created software artifacts or the followed processes. We aim to answer the questions about what challenges at scientific facilities such as European XFEL and possibly other large research facilities exist concerning the software engineering processes and software artifacts and how to solve these challenges by using and adapting state-of-the-art approaches. In particular, we focus on assessing collaboration aspects and best practices for creating data-driven, ML-based solutions.
