Modern particle accelerators and high-power laser systems are complex research facilities that present hazardous and challenging working conditions for humans. While there is enormous interest in developing AI and data science methods for processing the large data generated within these facilities, the question how operators and researchers can effectively interact, control, and maintain such facilities is an important research challenge itself. This project explores novel human-computer interaction (HCI) methods to improve the operation efficiency and safety of particle accelerators and laser facilities, particularly by using mixed reality (MR) technologies such as immersive virtual and augmented reality, and 3D user interfaces.
