Dr. Lorenz Adlung

Hybrid Meeting (Register here for the on-site event and networking afterwards: https://indico.desy.de/event/34951/)

July 6th, 2022

4 pm

Chair: Prof. Nina Rohringer

We are very happy to welcome Dr. Lorenz Adlung (Junior Group Leader, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf) as speaker in our series. In his talk, he will introduce recent data science challenges in the field of systems immunology. The title of the presentation is "May contain fat - a conceptual introduction to systems immunology for data scientists".

Abstract

Our immune system operates on different scales in space and time. Molecular signalling cascades transduce input cues almost instantly, cells exhibit a wide range of turnover times and entire organs change as individuals age. Highly dimensional data features quantitative alterations in both, physiological as well as pathological settings. Given those information, the utilisation of computational models enables us to optimise experimental design, test hypotheses and infer complex dynamics in health and disease.

The Adlung Lab, launched in July 2021 at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), addresses fundamental questions with clinical relevance by a combination of quantitative data generation and computational modelling. In my talk, I will conceptualise our data- and knowledge-driven research with the paradigm: adipose tissue - or as data scientists may well say: fat.

Networking

We are looking forward to further discussions after the talk with some snacks and drinks. Please register by July 3rd, 2022 if you want to join: https://indico.desy.de/event/34951/

We additionally offer a childcare service for the event. If you want to make use of this offer, please contact dashh-office@desy.de.

At 6 pm, the Center for Data and Computing also organized a Mini-Hackathon and invites interested researchers to register here: https://indico.desy.de/event/35037/
